WEB GEMS- Top 1st: Alfonso Soriano robbed J.D. Drew of a base hit.
Left fielder Matt Holliday slammed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Josh Beckett
pitched 9 strong innings as the Dominican Republicans defeated the Columbus
Crowd by the score of 6 to 1 at the ballpark.
The Dominican fans enjoyed the offense provided by Holliday. He hit a
bases-empty home run in the 2nd inning and lifted one out of the park for a
two run home run (his 3rd of the season) in the 8th inning. Dominican had a
total of 8 hits for the game.
Beckett(4-2) allowed 1 run on the game. Tom Glavine(11-9) was the losing
pitcher. He served up 3 gopher balls in 4 and 2/3 innings.
Frank Lopeman was obviously impressed with the pitching of Beckett, 'That guy
made us look a little silly out there this afternoon. We just couldn't get
to him at all - everything was working for him. I just hope that he got that
kinda performance out of his system.'
